Miami International GuitART Festival: Mastrini-Lazzeri
This event has passed.
An intimate piano-guitar dialogue takes center stage as the Miami International GuitART Festival presents the Mastrini-Lazzeri duo at FIU’s Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center.
Featuring Italian pianist and composer Maurizio Mastrini alongside guitarist Sandro Lazzeri, the concert draws from Mastrini’s Ghost program, a work that blurs the lines between contemporary classical music and cinematic soundscapes. Piano and guitar intertwine in a tightly woven exchange, moving through atmospheric textures, interior landscapes and emotionally charged passages shaped by Mastrini’s distinctive compositional voice and Lazzeri’s refined interpretive approach.
Mastrini is widely regarded for a body of work that bridges minimalism, classicism and experimentation, with compositions that balance structural rigor and expressive intensity. His collaboration with Lazzeri brings added dimension to the music, as Lazzeri’s guitar work draws on a broad European concert tradition spanning baroque repertoire to contemporary premieres. Together, the Perugia-based duo has captivated audiences across Europe with performances that are both poetic and immersive.
The concert takes place Friday, February 21 at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center at Florida International University. The performance is part of the 2026 Miami International GuitART Festival, held February 15-22, which features daily concerts, master classes, lectures and a Luthiers Expo. A festival pass is available for access to all events at a reduced rate, with additional information at migf.fiu.edu.
