Miami International GuitART Festival: Rene Izquierdo
This event has passed.
A concert by Cuban virtuoso René Izquierdo launches the 2026 Miami International GuitART Festival with an evening devoted to Latin American guitar traditions.
Presented as the opening performance of the XI Miami International GuitART Festival, the program features Izquierdo performing works rooted in traditional and classical Latin American repertoire. Known for combining refined technical command with a deeply expressive, narrative-driven approach, Izquierdo has earned international recognition for performances that balance precision, warmth and musical storytelling.
Born in Cuba, Izquierdo has appeared extensively as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral guest artist across the Americas, Europe and Asia, with performances at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Manaus Opera House and Taiwan’s National Recital Hall. His recording projects and concert programs often spotlight lesser-known works, new arrangements and contemporary compositions that expand the classical guitar repertoire.
The concert takes place Sunday, February 15 at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center at FIU. It marks the first event in a weeklong festival running February 15-22, featuring daily concerts, master classes, lectures and a Luthiers Expo. A 2026 Miami International GuitART Festival Pass is available for access to all festival events at a reduced rate.
