Miami Waterkeeper: State of the Water
Oct 15, 2026
Starting: 5:30 PM
Coral conservation, waterway advocacy and the future of South Florida’s reefs frame Miami Waterkeeper’s annual State of the Water gathering at the Rusty Pelican on Key Biscayne. Held Thursday, October 15, the eighth annual event focuses on the organization’s efforts to protect remaining staghorn coral populations and the recent withdrawal of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ state permit application for the Port Everglades Expansion Dredging project.
Miami Waterkeeper Dr. Rachel Silverstein delivers the keynote address, examining the current state of South Florida’s waters and what the dredging decision could mean for future reef protection. The program also highlights the scientists, advocates and community members involved in the Stop the Dredge campaign.
The evening includes presentation of the Porter Prize, recognizing a local environmental leader for work protecting South Florida’s waterways. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served, and business casual attire is suggested.
