Afro-Brazilian rhythms and Miami’s global soundscape converge at the Miami Beach Bandshell during the fifth annual Saideira Social, presented by Miamibloco, Taking place on Saturday, May 24, this high-energy celebration marks the return of the largest samba percussion orchestra in the U.S., known for its immersive performances rooted in Rio’s Carnaval traditions and reimagined through the city’s multicultural lens.
The evening opens with a traditional roda de samba at 7 p.m., inviting the community to gather, dance, and experience the spontaneity and soul of Brazilian music in an intimate, circular formation. From there, the 80-member ensemble Bateria Saideira takes the stage, joined by 23 guest artists from across the Americas, including Latin Grammy-nominated Colombian gaitero Tato Marenco and members of Rio’s renowned Bateria Furiosa from the Salgueiro samba school.
This year’s program blends Brazilian, Latin, Caribbean and African influences and features new collaborative arrangements alongside performances by Miami-based artists such as Gilmar Gomes, Rose Max and Ramatis Moraes, and Afrobeta. The event highlights Miamibloco’s commitment to community, cultural exchange and participatory music-making, evolving from backyard gatherings into a citywide movement.
Named the Best Musical Act of 2024 by Miami New Times readers, Miamibloco’s Saideira Social has become a hallmark of Memorial Day Weekend, offering a space where cultural heritage, percussion, and celebration meet on equal footing.
