Daily through Oct 12, 2026
Multiple event times
Indigenous filmmakers and storytellers from across the Americas and beyond come together for four days of screenings, conversations and cultural programming at the University of Miami’s Bill Cosford Cinema. Running Friday, October 9 through Monday, October 12, the inaugural Miccosukee Indigenous Film Festival presents 22 films spanning narrative features, documentaries and shorts, with filmmaker Q&As following screening blocks.
Presented in partnership with the University of Miami’s Iron Arrow Honor Society as part of its centennial celebration, the festival centers Indigenous voices and perspectives while exploring cultural heritage, language, identity, history and contemporary life. The international lineup includes works from the United States, Canada, Australia and other regions, with films selected according to criteria emphasizing Indigenous creative participation and representation.
Opening night features Nunkui, a story set within a Shuar community in the Amazon. Saturday and Sunday offer multiple screening blocks, including documentaries and short films addressing subjects ranging from Native stewardship of Yellowstone and the Navajo Long Walk to cultural preservation, sovereignty and contemporary Indigenous experience.
Saturday also includes a morning excursion from the Cosford Cinema to the Miccosukee Indian Village, with village tours, demonstrations and an alligator show. Airboat rides are available for an additional charge.
The festival concludes Monday with a special out-of-competition screening of Becoming Buffalo, which examines the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida’s sovereignty journey and the leadership of Buffalo Tiger, followed by the festival awards ceremony.
Individual screening-block tickets, day passes and full-festival passes are available.
