MOCA miniMakers: Celebrating Haitian Heritage Month
May 03, 2025
From: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Families are invited to take part in a hands-on art workshop exploring Haitian heritage and artistic expression through the lens of Vickie Pierre's current museum exhibition.
MOCA miniMakers: Celebrating Haitian Heritage Month will be held on Saturday, May 3 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA). This free, family-friendly program is designed for children ages 6–12 and their caregivers, offering an opportunity to explore different art techniques and materials through guided, creative activities.
This month’s workshop takes inspiration from the work of Vickie Pierre, whose solo exhibition The Maiden is The Warrior is currently on view at MOCA. Known for her assemblage-based approach and layered references to Haitian identity, Caribbean aesthetics and personal mythology, Pierre’s work provides a foundation for exploring heritage and visual storytelling in the classroom setting.
The miniMakers program is held monthly and reflects themes drawn from MOCA’s exhibitions and featured artists.
