National Independence of the Dominican Republic Celebration takes place Thursday, February 26 at noon at Miami Dade College West Campus, Room 1347. This commemorative program invites the campus community to reflect on the nation’s path to sovereignty while exploring the cultural identity and resilience that continue to shape Dominican life today.
Led by Dr. Washington (Niño) Collado, the presentation provides historical context on the struggles and triumphs that defined the country’s independence movement. Through dialogue and storytelling, attendees will gain insight into pivotal moments in Dominican history and the broader significance of national identity, resistance and cultural pride.
The event also highlights the Dominican Republic’s contributions to the African diaspora and its influence within Caribbean and global communities, creating space for reflection on shared histories and cultural connections.
