Opera in the Dark: The Ghost LIght Hour
Oct 23, 2026 - Oct 24, 2026
Starting: 6:30 PM
Opera emerges from a near-darkened theater in a concert built around the ghost light, the single bulb traditionally left burning onstage after a venue has emptied. Fine Arts of Miami presents two evening performances on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 at Lehman Theater. The production draws on both the practical purpose and theatrical folklore surrounding the ghost light, using it as a beacon for singers who appear from the shadows to evoke performers and voices of the past.
Metropolitan Opera baritone Nelson Martínez headlines a cast featuring Gabriel La Salette Menendez, Beatriz Marie Menendez, Stephanie Newman Paige and Paola Elorza. Rather than staging a conventional opera, the concert uses vocal performance, darkness and the solitary light to explore theatrical memory and the connection between present-day performers and those who came before them.
The Ghost Light Hour is part of Fine Arts of Miami’s Opera in the Dark series, which combines opera and classical vocal performance with immersive theatrical staging.
