Oscillation: Bee Keeping Sculptural Workshop
Jan 03, 2026
From: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
An outdoor, hands-on workshop invites participants to explore the intersection of sculpture, ecology and pollinator support through a site-responsive making experience at the Deering Estate. Centered on themes of tides, flow, and interconnection, the session guides attendees in creating a hanging sculptural form that doubles as a bee hotel, designed to support solitary pollinators native to South Florida.
Using locally harvested reeds and biodegradable twine, participants will construct an ecologically mindful piece that reflects both artistic intention and environmental care. The workshop is led by artist and environmental researcher Camila Young, whose practice draws on Caribbean cultural frameworks and collaborative methods to explore climate solidarity and environmental imagination. Young’s work bridges art, research and advocacy, with current initiatives connected to environmental policy studies at Yale University and international climate forums.
Oscillation: Bee Keeping Sculptural Workshop takes place Saturday, January 3 at the Deering Estate, located in front of the Pump House. The workshop is limited to 25 participants and is open to ages 16 and up, or younger attendees accompanied by a parent or guardian. All skill levels are welcome.
