Painting with Eco-Friendly Dyes: Agriculture Nights Workshop
Mar 12, 2026
From: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Create art from the pantry during an evening workshop focused on natural pigments and sustainable design.
Painting with Eco-Friendly Paints: Agriculture Nights Workshop takes place Thursday, March 12 at Vizcaya Village, part of Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. The hands-on session explores traditional paint-making techniques that predate modern art supplies, using ingredients such as starches, teas and spices to produce distinctive, earth-based colors.
Participants will learn how to mix natural pigments and apply them to handmade cardstock, creating a personalized artwork to take home. The workshop also includes transforming painted paper into a geometric kinetic mobile, blending craft, movement and design. No prior experience is required.
The session is led by Ecuadorian designer and educator Veronica Buitron, whose practice centers on natural dyes and sustainable textiles. Since 2016, she has led workshops in Ecuador and Miami and has authored a book on native dye plants of Ecuador. Her work connects material culture, environmental awareness and artisan traditions.
Held exclusively at Vizcaya Village, the estate’s historic farm village at 3250 South Miami Ave., the program does not include access to the Main House or formal gardens. The workshop is part of Vizcaya’s monthly AgriCulture Nights: Connect & Create series, which highlights the role of plants in art, food and daily life through creative community experiences. Registration is required, and space is limited.
