A couple's opposing views on their upcoming nuptials create comedic chaos as one dreams of the perfect celebration while the other seeks the quickest escape.
Palaboda runs September 12-14 at the Koubek Center as part of the 39th International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami, presented by Teatro Avante. Written and directed by La Tirana Producciones in collaboration with Rocío Sepulveda and Juan Sebastian Dominguez, the production features Susana Rosado and Jay García from La Tirana Producciones of Cádiz, Spain.
The comedy follows Begoñita and Juanmanué as they navigate vastly different wedding expectations. She envisions a proper ceremony complete with veil, reception, cake and dancing, while he resists everything from wearing tight shoes to exchanging rings that make his fingers swell. As Begoñita plans her dream celebration, Juanmanué schemes to finish quickly so he can return to fishing.
This Spanish-language production promises guaranteed laughs through its exploration of the universal tensions between wedding dreams and wedding realities, representing Spain's contribution to Miami's annual celebration of Hispanic theatre.
