A public panel explores how agriculture, migration and development have shaped the evolving identity of South Dade.
Panel Discussion: The Changing Landscape of South Dade takes place Thursday, February 19 at Miami Dade College’s Homestead Campus. Presented in conjunction with HistoryMiami Museum’s exhibition Belonging in Transit, the program examines the transformation of the Homestead and Redland areas, from early farming communities and migrant labor histories to the impacts of urban growth and environmental change.
The conversation brings together historians, a documentary photographer and community advocates offering personal and professional perspectives on South Dade’s past, present and future. Featured speakers include community activist Claudia Gonzalez, historic preservation specialist Tamara McDonald, documentary photographer Carlos “Cali” Muñoz, Miami Dade College history professor Oscar Blanco and HistoryMiami Museum resident historian Dr. Paul S. George. Admission is free with registration, seating is first come, first served and attendance includes a complimentary pass to HistoryMiami Museum.
