Penumbras
Through Oct 19, 2025
From: Noon to 5:00 PM
A cross-generational portrait of artistic experimentation and cultural exchange unfolds in this commemorative exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of Oolite Arts, formerly known as ArtCenter/South Florida. Co-curated by William Cordova and Marie Vickles, Penumbras: a narrative of ArtCenter/South Florida • Oolite Arts (1984–2014) reflects on the institution’s first three decades and the alumni who helped define its legacy.
On view August 6 through October 19 at Oolite Arts on Miami Beach, Penumbras features original works, archival materials, and ephemera from a wide range of former residents, including participants in the foundational CAVA (Career Artists in the Visual Arts) residency. A memorial section honors alumni who have passed, while a video installation offers a time capsule of rarely seen interviews, home videos, and early artist films. The exhibition also highlights the contributions of artists from the African diaspora, including Fenol Marcelin, Vickie Pierre, Michael Richards, and Edouard Duval-Carrié, among others.
Special events include an Opening Reception + Open Studios on Wednesday, August 6 from 6 to 9 p.m., and an Artist Talk with curators William Cordova and Marie Vickles at 6:15 p.m. in Room 201. Admission is free with RSVP.
