Preview Night of Beyond Words: Women of Mother Earth

A new exhibition at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex reexamines feminine archetypes through photography and poetry in a preview evening presented by IPC Art Space. A preview of Beyond Words: Women of Mother Earth takes place Thursday, March 5. The exhibit features work by fine art photographer and iWitness Fellow Maria Daniel Balcazar, whose images engage themes of identity, mythology and women’s autonomy.

Drawing inspiration from the poetry of Julia de Burgos, Balcazar’s work creates a visual dialogue around figures such as Eve, reinterpreting longstanding religious and cultural narratives that have shaped perceptions of women’s knowledge and power. Curated by Carl-Philippe Juste, the exhibition explores resilience, transformation and the symbolism of Mother Earth across cultures.
