A woman’s return home sets the stage for an unexpected confrontation with memory, legacy and loss in Puratawn: The Ancient, a film by National Award–winning director Suman Ghosh.
Presented by MAIACA at MDC’s Koubek Theater on Saturday, August 16, this special screening reflects the organization's continued commitment to bringing Indian arts and culture to the South Florida community. The story follows Rittika, who travels to her ancestral home to celebrate her mother’s 80th birthday—only to discover a version of her mother she no longer recognizes. As the visit unfolds, the occasion shifts from a family gathering to a meditation on time, identity and reconciliation.
Starring legendary Indian actress Sharmila Tagore, Puratawn: The Ancient is the latest feature from Ghosh, whose work has appeared at international festivals including Busan, Rotterdam and Karlovy Vary.
