Feb 26, 2026
From: 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM
A documentary screening and panel discussion examine climate gentrification and its impact on one of Miami’s most historically significant neighborhoods.
Razing Liberty Square Documentary Viewing and Panel Discussion takes place Thursday, February 26 at Miami Dade College’s Meek Center, Room 1103. Presented as part of the College’s Black History Month programming commemorating 100 years of the national observance, the program is held in collaboration with Dream in Green and the Earth Ethics Institute.
The film explores the history of Liberty City, home to one of the oldest segregated public housing projects in the United States. As rising sea levels reshape South Florida’s real estate landscape, the neighborhood’s higher elevation has drawn new development interest, transforming historically overlooked land into highly sought-after property. Through documentary storytelling and community dialogue, the event considers how climate change, housing policy and market forces intersect, raising urgent questions about displacement, equity and the future of historically Black communities in Miami.
