Sacred Sound and Movement
Jun 28, 2025
From: 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM
An evening of guided movement, music and meditation offers a space to explore the connection between sound, body and healing. Designed as a multi-sensory experience, the program blends breathwork, dance and live instrumentation to support deeper physical and emotional awareness.
Sacred Sound and Movement takes place Saturday, June 28 at the Unitarian Universalist Church. Presented by the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs at FIU, the evening begins with breathwork and visualization led by Jaret Brooks, a movement warm-up with dance artist Nia Lange and an ecstatic dance session curated by DJ Erik Lieux. The experience then shifts to sound healing with Rich Gausman, who will use a 40-inch gong and crystal bowls to create a meditative soundscape.
Additional layers of sound will be added by Jordon DeMercado and collaborators on didgeridoos and ancient instruments, alongside live flute and saxophone by world musician Doug Tessler. Guests are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, blanket and water. Space is limited and advance registration is recommended.
