A conversation with Elizabeth Kolbert brings the urgency and complexity of a rapidly changing planet into clear, accessible focus. In this installment of the Sea Secrets Lecture Series, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist joins former NBC News correspondent Kerry Sanders for an evening that reflects on decades of environmental reporting and the evolving science behind climate change, species loss and ecological resilience.
The 2026 Sea Secrets Lecture Series with Elizabeth Kolbert, taking place Tuesday, February 10 at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School, highlights themes from her newest book, Life on a Little-Known Planet: Dispatches from a Changing World. The collection follows researchers and conservationists into the field, from tracking caterpillars in Texas to confronting invasive species in New Zealand, offering a panorama of ecological upheaval and the human efforts to understand and respond to it. Kolbert’s conversation with Sanders will also revisit ideas from The Sixth Extinction and other influential works that have shaped public understanding of environmental change.
A reception follows the program, giving attendees an opportunity to continue the discussion and engage with the issues raised during the lecture.
