Songwriting Workshop with Inez Barlatier
Oct 25, 2025
Starting: 12:00 PM
Singer-songwriter, educator and cultural storyteller Inez Barlatier leads an accessible workshop that explores songwriting through the lens of heritage, voice and narrative.
Songwriting Workshop with Inez Barlatier takes place Saturday, October 25 at 2 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami. Presented by Live Arts Miami in partnership with Big Read Miami 2025 and the MOCA Book Club, this free workshop is open to all, including families with children ages six and up.
Raised in Miami, Inez Barlatier is a Haitian-American (Ayisyen) multidisciplinary artist whose work spans music, acting, dance and children’s performance. From age 12 she began performing as a musician, percussionist, and folkloric dancer, and her music often reflects her Haitian heritage and global influences. Her music has appeared in award-winning films, and her children’s show Ayiti: Stories & Songs from Haiti has reached thousands of children and families across the Americas. She has also been recognized locally in Miami media, and the City of North Miami declared May 31 “Inez Barlatier Day” in 2024.
During the workshop, participants will draw on themes from The House on Mango Street to craft original songs, exploring lyric development, melodic ideas and chord progressions, and perform together by the session’s end.
