Spike Lee’s semi-autobiographical film Crooklyn screens outdoors at SoundScape Park on Miami Beach.
SoundScape Cinema Series: Crooklyn takes place Wednesday, February 18. Directed by Spike Lee, the 1994 comedy-drama is set in 1970s Brooklyn and told through the perspective of a young girl growing up in a close-knit Black family. The film captures the rhythms of neighborhood life as the family navigates financial strain, childhood mischief and the dynamics of parents, siblings and community.
The screening is part of the City of Miami Beach’s SoundScape Cinema Series, with February programming curated in recognition of Black History Month and highlighting films that center Black stories, voices and filmmakers. The film begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free with no ticket required. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating on the lawn and enjoy the film on the New World Center’s large-scale outdoor projection wall.
