Tactile Sculpture Workshop
Jun 11, 2025
From: 06:00 PM to 08:30 PM
Discover new ways to express yourself through form and texture in a hands-on sculpture workshop led by a seasoned artist with a background in clay-based media. The Tactile Sculpture Workshop takes place on Wednesday, June 11 at Oolite Arts, offering a welcoming environment for creative exploration using air-dry clay.
Open to adults of all experience levels, the session introduces foundational hand-building techniques such as pinching, coiling and slab construction. Participants are guided through creative prompts that encourage translating thoughts and emotions into three-dimensional works. The workshop also incorporates embedded materials like wire, stones and tiles to enhance surface texture and visual depth. A warm-up exercise and closing group reflection frame the session, fostering both personal insight and community exchange.
The workshop is led by Karen Starosta-Gilinski, a Venezuelan-born, Miami-based artist known for her mixed-media assemblages and clay sculptures. Her work has been exhibited at institutions such as the Bass Museum, Locust Projects and the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, and she brings a wealth of teaching experience to her practice.
All materials are included, and no prior experience is necessary. Participants are encouraged to come with an open mind and a willingness to experiment.
