Folk influence, classical choral writing and spiritual traditions intersect in a program featuring composer and performer Shawn Kirchner with the Frost Chorale at UM Gusman Concert Hall. Presented Friday, October 30, as part of Frost Music Live’s 2026-2027 season, the concert places Kirchner’s music within a broader program exploring the expressive range of contemporary choral repertoire.
Kirchner is known for compositions that combine lyrical storytelling with influences from American folk music, sacred traditions and concert choral writing. Appearing as guest artist, he brings his own interpretive perspective to selections of his work as performed by the Frost Chorale.
The ensemble performs under the direction of Matthew Brady and Gene Peterson, with a program designed to move between Kirchner’s compositions and complementary works from the wider choral repertoire.
