Opera, comedy and time travel collide in a whimsical spectacle where the afterlife meets the stage in grand Versailles style. In The Ghosts of Versailles: Immersive Opera, Marie Antoinette mourns her tragic end until her favorite playwright, Beaumarchais, concocts a theatrical escape—reigniting the escapades of Figaro and friends in a layered, opera-within-an-opera farce. When the characters break from the script, chaos ensues and the lines between fiction and reality blur in unexpected ways.
Presented with immersive 360-degree projections at the Temple Emanu-El Ballroom, this production is part of the 2025 Miami Beach Classical Music Festival. Performances take place July 25 at 8 p.m. and July 27 at 1 p.m., featuring MMF Opera Institute artists in a rarely staged contemporary work known for its wit, extravagance and inventive storytelling.
