The Librarians Documentary at O Cinema

Book challenges, library policy disputes and the people navigating them are examined in a free documentary screening at O Cinema South Beach. Presented Wednesday, October 21 by O Cinema South Beach, The Betsy Hotel and The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade, The Librarians follows school and public librarians in states including Florida, Texas and Louisiana as they respond to efforts to remove or restrict books from library collections.

Directed by Kim A. Snyder, the Emmy Award-winning documentary looks at the professional and personal consequences facing librarians caught in debates over access to books, intellectual freedom and public education. Snyder, whose previous films include Us Kids and Death by Numbers, will attend the screening.

Following the film, the program moves to The Betsy Hotel for a moderated conversation and Q&A with Snyder, film participant and Clay County resident Reverend Jeffrey Dove and special guests, followed by a reception.
