The Librarians Documentary: Coconut Grove Screening

A documentary examining challenges to library collections and access to books is followed by a conversation with the filmmaker and featured guests at the Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove. Held Tuesday, October 20, the screening of The Librarians is presented by the Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove and The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade.

Directed and produced by Kim A. Snyder, the Emmy Award-winning film follows librarians in Florida, Texas and other states as they respond to efforts to remove or restrict books from schools and public libraries. Snyder joins the post-screening discussion with film participant Reverend Jeffrey Dove and ACLU of Florida Executive Director Bacardi Jackson.

The evening begins with the film, followed by a moderated conversation and audience Q&A examining the documentary’s themes of access to information, libraries and intellectual freedom.
