The Long Cuban Night
Apr 11, 2026
Starting: 5:45 PM
A documentary explores the San Isidro Movement and its role in shaping recent political protests in Cuba.
The Long Cuban Night screens Saturday, April 11 at Silverspot Cinema as part of the Miami Film Festival. Directed by Sergio Fernández Borrás, the film documents a collective of artists and activists whose actions helped set the stage for the nationwide demonstrations of July 11, 2021.
Using footage captured largely on mobile devices, the documentary follows figures such as Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, Denis Solís and Maykel Osorbo as they confront state repression while using art as a form of dissent. The film also highlights the role of younger generations navigating censorship, surveillance and limited civil freedoms, offering a ground-level perspective on a defining moment in contemporary Cuban history.
Presented in Spanish and making its world premiere, the screening will include the expected appearance of the director.
