The Long Cuban Night
Apr 11, 2026
Starting: 5:45 PM
A documentary screening examines a recent chapter of artistic resistance and political protest in Cuba.
The Long Cuban Night screens Saturday, April 11 at Silverspot Cinema as part of the Miami Film Festival. Directed by Sergio Fernández Borrás, the film documents the San Isidro Movement, a collective of artists and activists whose actions helped set the stage for the nationwide protests of July 11, 2021.
Through footage captured largely on mobile devices, the documentary follows figures such as Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, Denis Solís and Maykel Osorbo as they confront state repression while using art as a form of dissent. The film highlights the role of younger generations navigating censorship, surveillance and limited civil freedoms, offering a ground-level perspective on a pivotal moment in contemporary Cuban history.
Presented in Spanish and making its world premiere, the screening will include the expected appearance of the director.
