The Power of the Word: A Black Literary Celebration takes place Wednesday, February 25 at Miami-Dade College’s Homestead Campus, presented as part of Miami-Dade College’s Black History Month programming marking the 100th anniversary of the observance. The event features dramatic spoken-word performances drawn from the work of influential Black writers and thinkers, including Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Langston Hughes, Paul Robeson, Larzetta Jenkins and Deborah Vaz, among others.
Through poetry, storytelling and expressive interpretation, the program highlights the resilience, creativity and cultural impact of Black literary traditions. Following the performances, attendees are invited to continue the gathering with a family-style barbecue and casual games.
