Thomas Chatterton Williams on The Demise of Discourse
This event has passed.
Ideas, identity and public dialogue take center stage in this timely conversation examining how contemporary culture has reshaped debate and discourse.
As part of the Miami Book Fair, Thomas Chatterton Williams on The Demise of Discourse will be held on Saturday, November 22 at the Chapman Conference Center at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus. Williams discusses his new book, Summer of Our Discontent: The Age of Certainty and the Demise of Discourse, which explores the social, political and cultural forces that have redefined notions of justice and truth in recent years.
In dialogue with historian and Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., Williams reflects on the evolution of public conversation in the wake of movements around race, identity and freedom of expression. This free, ticketed event invites audiences to engage with some of today’s most pressing questions about how ideas shape — and challenge — modern society.
