Traditional Aztec Dance Ceremony: 5th Annual Danza Conchera
Feb 28, 2026
From: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
An Indigenous Aztec sacred ceremony brings prayerful dance, music and ancestral tradition to Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.
Traditional Aztec Dance Ceremony: The 5th Annual Danza Conchera takes place Saturday, February 28 at Vizcaya Village, presented by Tonalxochitl in collaboration with Indigenous Aztec communities from across the United States and Mexico. The public gathering centers on Danza de Concheros, a ceremonial dance practice rooted in the traditions of the Nahua peoples of central Mexico and sustained through generations as a spiritual and cultural expression of community, balance and continuity.
Throughout the morning, participants will witness sacred dances performed in a ceremonial circle, accompanied by traditional instruments such as the huehuetl and teponaztli. An altar adorned with flowers and offerings anchors the ritual space, honoring Creation and the forces of nature through movement, song, incense and collective intention. Families are welcome to drop in or remain for the full ceremony.
Tonalxochitl, a Miami-based collective of Indigenous families, has spent more than 15 years preserving and sharing ancestral Mexican traditions through educational programs, cultural events and community outreach. Their work connects people of all ages to living heritage and emphasizes the continued relevance of Indigenous knowledge in the modern world.
Admission is free, and advance registration through Eventbrite is encouraged.
