Vizcaya Live: Toomai String Quintet

Latin American chamber music takes center stage as the Toomai String Quintet performs on Vizcaya’s waterfront terrace. Presented Tuesday, October 20, the concert features music from Cuba, Brazil, Mexico and beyond, with works by composers including Israel “Cachao” López, Tito Puente, Tania León, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Chiquinha Gonzaga.
Formed at the Juilliard School in 2007, the Toomai String Quintet is known for creating original arrangements, commissioning new works and expanding the repertoire for string ensembles. The group has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, 92NY and The Phillips Collection and has released the albums Cuerdas Cubanas and Passos Brasileiros, both centered on Latin American music.
The ensemble features violinists Karla Donehew-Pérez and Suliman Tekalli, violist Kayla Williams, cellist Hamilton Berry and bassist Andrew Roitstein. Seating on the waterfront terrace is first come, first served.
