Waiting for Snow in Havana

An afternoon of storytelling, music and cultural memory offers a behind-the-scenes look at the development of a new stage production rooted in Cuban-American history.

Waiting for Snow in Havana takes place Thursday, August 14 at the Koubek Center. Presented by the National Association of Cuban-American Educators (NACAE) in collaboration with the Koubek Center, Books & Books and Havana Club, this event introduces the creative team behind Waiting for Snow in Havana: A New Musical, currently in development in New York.

Based on the National Book Award–winning memoir, the musical explores one child’s experience during Operation Pedro Pan through the lens of memory, exile and identity. Created by a Miami-raised team, the project reflects the city’s deep ties to the story. Guests will have the opportunity to hear selections from the score, engage with the artists, and experience part of the musical’s creative journey.
