We Met at Miami City Cemetery
Oct 24, 2026
From: 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM
Historic preservation and social connection come together during a hands-on volunteer morning at Miami City Cemetery. Held Saturday, October 24, the event pairs We Met in Miami with the Florida Public Archaeology Network for an introduction to local history, cemetery iconography and the care of historic grave markers.
Established in 1897, Miami City Cemetery is the final resting place of approximately 9,000 people, including city pioneers, veterans and Julia Tuttle. Participants will learn safe techniques for cleaning markers and pruning vegetation before working in teams throughout the cemetery. Gloves and cleaning supplies are provided, along with water and light snacks.
After the cleanup, participants can continue socializing during an optional gathering at nearby Bunbury Miami, where food and drinks are available for purchase.
