Weathering: A Conversation on Art and Climate Change
Nov 08, 2025
From: 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Art, science and sustainability come together for an afternoon of dialogue and discovery at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden.
On Saturday, November 8, the Garden presents Weathering: A Conversation on Art and Climate Change, a panel exploring how creativity can inspire awareness and action in the face of our changing environment. The discussion features Dr. Pamela L. Geller, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Miami; Dr. Adriana González Fernández, Science & Research Director at Miami Waterkeeper; Veronica Pesantes, curator and founder of Miami Art Hang; and Alissa Alfonso, exhibiting artist of Weathering: A Living Garden of Reclaimed Natural Wonders (on view through November 18).
Each panelist brings a unique perspective to the conversation, from Dr. Geller’s study of plastics as artifacts of the “Synthetic Revolution” to Dr. González Fernández’s work on water quality and environmental resilience. Pesantes offers a curator’s view on art and sustainability in Miami’s creative ecosystem, while Alfonso shares how her work transforms reclaimed materials into living art installations.
Together, they’ll explore how art can foster environmental dialogue, bridge communities and reimagine our collective relationship with nature. Held amid the lush setting of the Botanical Garden, this event invites audiences to reflect on both the beauty and urgency of our planet’s future.
