Wynwood Pride 2021

The triumphant return of Pride after a crazy year.

Wynwood and Pride go hand in hand. It’s no secret the LGBTQ+ community is drawn to the arts, so the Wynwood neighborhood is a natural fit for Greater Miami & Miami Beach’s first pride festival in the Covid-19 vaccine era. With a stellar entertainment lineup, the festival represented the hopes of all of us who were cooped up for the past year while nearly every Pride festival was shuttered because of the lockdown.

For 2021, Wynwood Pride organizers planned three days of events from June 18-20, in a neighborhood takeover including many of the best venues that Wynwood, one of Miami’s nightlife hotspots, has to offer. Coupled with top-notch entertainment, Wynwood Pride weekend was a great opportunity for the queer community and allies to commemorate the Stonewall Riots and come together to celebrate how far the fight for equality has come.

The exclusive kickoff event was held on Friday, June 18 at The Oasis, Wynwood’s newest tropical paradise escape. Pride took over The Oasis with an incredible lineup of international talent including performances by Pop icon Charli XCX and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” superstar Kandy Muse. Charli XCX is a singer, songwriter, and ally. She has collaborated with some of the world’s most exciting LGBTQI+ artists. Her performance was featured in a recent “Vogue” article. Kandy Muse was the runner-up on season 13 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” One of the breakout stars of the year, Muse made a name for herself by always keeping it real with the other queens, never shying away from a little drama, and by making sure everyone knew exactly where she stands.

On Saturday, June 19, The Oasis hosted a full day of back-to-back drag shows, fierce DJ sets, musical performances, special guest appearances, celebrity hosts, and much more. The evening culminated with a headlining set by international DJ sensation Honey Dijon and house music icon and pioneer Derrick Carter. A host of other events took place at iconic Wynwood hotspots like 1-800 Lucky, R House, Coyo Taco, Freehold Miami, and Veza Sur.

Wynwood Pride came to a close on Sunday, June 20 with a celebration of the launch of GLORIA!, a daytime disco at the new Freehold Miami, an event space that encompasses more than 10,000 square feet including three bars, a 4,000-square-foot courtyard and stage, a private dining space, a street-side cafe, and a 1970s-style pizza shop. The evening’s events were headlined by Eli Escobar alongside Miami’s Vakdevi and Miguel Clark.
