Design District:
Cultured and Curated

The Miami Design District is a sophisticated and inviting international destination for fashion, art, architecture and fine dining.

Creativity flourishes in the Miami Design District. Spanning 18 square blocks just north of I-195 and Midtown Miami, this exciting shopping and arts district is a treasure trove of luxury fashion boutiques, edgy art galleries, engaging public art and trendy restaurants. The brainchild of visionary developer and art collector Craig Robins, the Miami Design District has grown into a sophisticated and inviting international destination for art and design.

While window shopping at luxury flagship boutiques such as Prada, Celine and Balenciaga may be what initially draws many visitors here, the experience is elevated by the captivating public art found throughout the district. From a prototype of Buckminster Fuller’s Fly’s Eye geodesic dome surrounded by palm trees in Palm Court, to Sol LeWitt’s sculpture garden and a web of hanging chairs by German designer Konstantin Grcic, the Miami Design District is a feast for the senses. The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA), where admission is always free, focuses on experimentation and the exchange of contemporary art and ideas. Don’t miss celebrated local galleries, including David Castillo, Locust Projects and the De La Cruz Collection. Set aside some time to visit the Haitian Heritage Museum and learn about Haitian arts, culture and history.

The Miami Design District has also become a prime location to explore some of the destination’s most exciting restaurants. While James Beard Award-winning local chef Michael Schwartz set the tone back in 2007 with his farm-to-table cuisine at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink (temporarily closing in summer 2021 for renovation and expansion) and later Harry’s Pizzeria, the district has recently exploded with new concepts by celebrated chefs and restaurateurs. Whether it’s dining under the stars on Nikkei-inspired Peruvian-Japanese fare at Itamae in Palm Court, indulging in fire-grilled Korean steakhouse cuisine at clubby, Michelin-starred Cote Miami or joining the see-and-be-seen crowd at Swan and Bar Bevy, the Miami Design District offers tantalizing tastes around every corner.
