How did the skyscraper influence the way race was perceived? As part of The Harlem Renaissance at 100: Perspectives and Possibilities exhibit events series, Adrienne Brown, University of Chicago associate professor and author The Black Skyscraper: Architecture and the Perception of Race, will join the Wolfsonian for a special presentation where she’ll examine the skyscraper-centric images of Harlem Renaissance artist Aaron Douglas. Tying together The Wolfsonian’s Aerial Vision and Harlem Renaissance exhibits, Brown will explore the how the skyscraper shaped the perceptions of African-American artists in the early 20th century.
