An Evening with Barbara Caver
Jan 18, 2026
Starting: 7:00 PM
An author talk at Books & Books brings Barbara Caver to Coral Gables for a conversation shaped by heritage, memory and the unexpected connections that surfaced during her first visit to Cuba. Her work blends memoir, travel writing and moments of the uncanny to explore what it means to understand one’s identity across distance and time.
An Evening with Barbara Caver takes place Sunday, January 18. The discussion centers on her book A Little Piece of Cuba: A Journey To Become Cubana-Americana, which traces how a 2017 trip to Havana awakened sensory memories and family history, culminating in her discovery of her great-grandmother’s home despite not knowing its address. A conversation and signing follow the program.
Caver’s memoir reflects on belonging, humor and cultural inheritance, drawing from her experiences growing up in South Carolina and later finding connection through Cuban American communities. The event is free and open to the public, with RSVPs encouraged.
