An Evening with Daniel Kehlmann
Oct 15, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
A celebrated voice in contemporary German literature, Daniel Kehlmann appears in Coral Gables to discuss his new novel The Director, a work that probes the uneasy entanglements of art, power and history.
Presented by the Books & Books Literary Foundation in partnership with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Miami and the Betsy Hotel, An Evening with Daniel Kehlmann takes place Wednesday, October 15 at Books & Books in Coral Gables. The novel draws inspiration from the life of filmmaker G.W. Pabst, who sought refuge in Hollywood from Nazi Germany only to be compelled to return and direct films under the Third Reich. Blending biography with fiction, Kehlmann examines questions of artistic integrity, compromise and survival in a time of political coercion.
Kehlmann is the author of internationally acclaimed works including Measuring the World and Tyll, and his writing has been translated into more than forty languages. This free event offers the opportunity to hear from a prizewinning author whose novels and plays have reshaped the landscape of German literature. Books will be available for purchase on site.
