Apr 27, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
Award-winning Cuban author and filmmaker Wendy Guerra brings her latest literary work to South Florida for an intimate discussion in Spanish. An Evening with Wendy Guerra takes place at Books & Books in Coral Gables on Sunday, April 27, where she will present her new novel La costurera de Chanel (The Chanel Seamstress).
The novel blends historical fiction and fashion history through the story of Simone Leblanc, a creative seamstress in a small French provincial town. The narrative follows her unexpected collaboration with Gabrielle Chanel, tracking their relationship from the French Atlantic coast through World War I Paris, 1930s Cuba and Nazi-occupied France.
Guerra, whose work has been translated into 23 languages, brings notable literary credentials to this event. A former student of Gabriel García Márquez, she has received numerous accolades including the Bruguera Prize for her debut novel "Todos se van." Her previous works have been recognized by The New York Times and she was named Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government in 2010.
