Apollon Musagète Quartet: Death and the Maiden
Jun 18, 2026
Starting: 7:30 PM
Bach’s contrapuntal writing and Schubert’s dramatic Death and the Maiden anchor a chamber music program by the Apollon Musagète Quartet. The concert takes place Thursday, June 18, at Newman Recital Hall in the Knight Center for Music Innovation at the University of Miami. Presented as part of the Frost Chopin Academy & Festival, the evening also opens with selected academy participants performing works by Chopin.
The program begins with “Contrapunctus I” from J.S. Bach’s The Art of Fugue, a work built on intricate counterpoint and formal clarity. It concludes with Franz Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, D. 810, known as Death and the Maiden, one of the composer’s most intense chamber works and a central piece of the string quartet repertoire.
The Apollon Musagète Quartet is known for its refined ensemble sound and expressive approach to chamber music. Its appearance adds a chamber music focus to the festival’s piano-centered programming, with a residency presented in partnership with Friends of Chamber Music of Miami.
