Arte Nuova: Art Nouveau Music in Italy
May 16, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Italian chamber music and song from the Art Nouveau era open Orchestra Miami’s new Saturdays at Trinity series in downtown Miami. Presented in partnership with the Music Ministry of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Arte Nuova: Art Nouveau Music in Italy takes place Saturday, May 16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The concert explores Italy’s stile floreale, or “floral style,” through music shaped by lush harmonies, theatrical expression and early 20th-century experimentation.
The program includes Ottorino Respighi’s Il Tramonto, a dramatic lyric poem for mezzo-soprano and string quartet, along with his rarely heard Piano Quintet in F minor. The concert also features Giacomo Puccini’s Crisantemi for string quartet and selected art songs, closing with Neapolitan songs by Giorgio Tosti.
Performers include Orchestra Miami musicians Huifang Chen and Dale Sandvold on violin, Gregory Falkenstein on viola, Susan Bergeron on cello and Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi on piano. Guest vocalists include mezzo-soprano Maggie Reneé, a Metropolitan Opera Grand Finalist Award winner, and tenor Gerardo Ortega. Admission is pay-what-you-wish starting at $5, with reserved front-row seating available, and a wine and bubbly reception follows the performance.
