Artist Talk: Deering Contemporary Exhibition
Mar 08, 2026
From: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Contemporary artists reflect on sustainability, place and shared resources during a public conversation at Deering Estate.
Artist Talk: Deering Contemporary Exhibition takes place Sunday, March 8 in the Visitor Center Theater. The free program features participating artists Maria Theresa Barbist, Mark Herrera, Yusimy Lara, Evelyn Politzer, David Valiente and Rebecca White discussing their work and creative process within the current exhibition.
The talk is presented in conjunction with Deering Contemporary 2026: Here We Gather… What We Need, We Already Have, curated by Dainy Tapia. On view through March 22, the exhibition features sculptural and installation works centered on community, ecology and the act of gathering. Artists were invited to create pieces using materials found on-site at Deering Estate, incorporating natural elements such as leaves and branches alongside archival references, sound and memory tied to the landscape.
Exploring themes of preservation, interdependence and resourcefulness, the exhibition embraces both permanence and ephemerality, allowing works to weather and evolve within the environment. The artist talk offers insight into how these ideas take shape through material choice, site-specific practice and collaborative reflection.
Admission is free with RSVP.
