Audible Systems: Held / Garet + Matamoros
Sep 13, 2026
From: 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Intermedia works involving sound, image and perception come together in a program that considers how sensory experience can operate as an interconnected system. Audible Systems: Held / Garet + Matamoros takes place Sunday, September 13 at the Deering Estate Theater in Palmetto Bay. The free program is part of Subtropics: Audible Fields at Deering Estate, a five-part series curated by composer and intermedia artist Gustavo Matamoros that foregrounds listening as an active, perceptual experience.
Presented by Deering Estate and Subtropics, the series brings together experimental music, moving image, radio art and spatial sound practices across a sequence of programs. This installment continues the series' focus through intermedia work that explores relationships among sound, image, space and attention.
Matamoros is a Miami-based intermedia artist, composer and curator working in experimental music, sound installation and interdisciplinary performance. Born in Caracas, Venezuela and active in South Florida since 1979, he is the founding artistic director of the Subtropics Festival and currently serves as an artist-in-residence at the Deering Estate Theater. The program takes place in the theater’s recently enhanced setting, which includes updated projection, lighting and surround sound capabilities.
