Banned Book Week: WE ARE FREE Power Hour

Children and families explore reading, creativity and free expression through stories, conversation and art during an interactive program at Books & Books in Coral Gables. Presented Sunday, October 4 as part of Banned Books Week, the WE ARE FREE Power Hour is led by Dr. Ally and introduces First Amendment ideas through age-appropriate activities centered on reading, asking questions, creating and speaking up.

The program includes a reading of We Are Free: Our First Amendment Rights, followed by a discussion inviting children to share ideas about issues that matter to them. Participants can also create “Freedom Signs” responding to the prompt “If I could use my voice to change one thing, I would…” and meet the author for questions, book signing and photos. Older children will be introduced to Your Freedom, Your Power: A Kid’s Guide to the First Amendment.

The one-hour event is free and open to the public, with books available for purchase. RSVP provides general admission but does not guarantee space, so early arrival is recommended.
