Broken Ground: Unearthing The Tequesta Trail Film Screening
Oct 15, 2026
From: 6:45 PM to 9:00 PM
Archaeology, urban development and Indigenous heritage intersect in a documentary examining what lies beneath modern downtown Miami. Presented Thursday, October 15 at Silverspot Cinema, WLRN’s Broken Ground: Unearthing the Tequesta Trail explores recent archaeological discoveries connected to the Tequesta and the questions they raise about preservation, property rights and stewardship of pre-Columbian remains.
The film features interviews with South Florida historians, archaeologists and researchers including Dr. Paul George, Bob Carr, Dr. William Pestle, Dr. Patricia Wickman, Kathryn Miyar and William Keddell, along with archival footage from the Wolfson Media Archives. Their perspectives trace the continuing debate over how archaeological sites and human remains should be studied, protected and interpreted as new development reveals more of Miami’s early history.
Doors open at 6:45 p.m., followed by the screening at 7 p.m. and a Q&A at 8 p.m. Seating is limited.
