Caleb Around Town: Black America’s Birth of Jazz takes place Friday, February 13 at the Joseph Caleb Center. Presented as part of Black History Month programming, the event traces the origins of jazz through spoken word and live music, highlighting the cultural forces and lived experiences that gave rise to the genre.
The program features a spoken word performance by Rebecca Phoenix Vaughns alongside live jazz by the Harden Project, combining storytelling and music to examine jazz as both a historical movement and an ongoing cultural expression. Designed as an accessible, midday experience, the event invites audiences to engage with the legacy of Black artistry that continues to shape American music.
