An intimate author talk highlights overlooked histories within American hospitality and the legacy of Black-owned travel spaces.
Calvin Stovall takes place Friday, January 16 at the Dunns Josephine Hotel in Historic Overtown. The evening centers on Stovall’s book Hidden Hospitality: Untold Stories of Black Hotel, Motel, and Resort Owners from the Pioneer Days to the Civil Rights Era, which documents the entrepreneurs and properties that provided refuge, community and opportunity during segregation and beyond.
Stovall, CEO and Chief Experience Officer of ICONICPresentations, LLC, shares research and personal insight into the cultural and economic impact of Black-owned hospitality businesses, followed by a discussion and book signing. Copies of Hidden Hospitality are available for purchase in advance and may be personally autographed during the event.
