Celebrating Black Miami
Oct 17, 2025
From: Noon to 2:00 PM
History, storytelling, and rare films converge in an evening dedicated to Miami’s Black heritage at the Historic Hampton House.
On Friday, October 17, Celebrating Black Miami: An Immersive Journey through History & Film invites guests to experience a guided tour of the landmark hotel, once a gathering place for icons like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali and Sam Cooke. The program continues with screenings of three rare 16mm films curated by archivist Katharine Labuda—The Matter With Me (1971), Didn’t We Ramble On (1989) and A Few Things I Know About Miami (1987)—each capturing layered stories of community, culture and resilience.
A post-screening discussion with Miami documentary filmmaker Dudley Alexis, known for When Liberty Burns and Edge of Hope, deepens the reflection. Complimentary concessions are included, and the first 25 attendees will receive a free Video Consortium tote bag.
