Conference on Cuban and Cuban American Studies
Feb 26, 2026
Starting: 8:30 AM
Scholars, researchers and community leaders gather for the 15th Conference on Cuban and Cuban American Studies, presented by the Cuban Research Institute (CRI) at Florida International University.
This year’s theme, “Cuba: The Day After Tomorrow,” invites critical reflection on the island’s future amid its most profound political, economic and social crisis since 1959. Dedicated to the memory of Cuban American artist Humberto Calzada, the conference explores questions surrounding governance, constitutional reform, economic transformation and the role of the diaspora in rebuilding a post-Castro Cuba.
Held February 26–27, 2026 at the FIU Graham Center Ballrooms, the conference features panels, papers and roundtables examining Cuba’s evolving identity and the potential pathways for national renewal. Participants from across disciplines will address topics ranging from demographic and environmental challenges to cultural and international dynamics shaping the nation’s future.
The conference continues CRI’s long-standing tradition of convening diverse voices to deepen understanding of Cuba and its global diaspora.
