Dafnis Prieto & Frost Latin Jazz Orchestra
Apr 23, 2026
Starting: 7:30 PM
A rhythm-driven program rooted in Afro-Cuban tradition and contemporary jazz brings one of today’s most inventive bandleaders into collaboration with emerging musicians. Drummer and composer Dafnis Prieto leads the Frost Latin Jazz Orchestra in a performance shaped by narrative composition, complex groove and expansive ensemble writing.
Known for blending Cuban musical heritage with a forward-looking approach, Prieto has earned wide recognition for work that balances melodic clarity with rhythmic intensity. His projects often unfold as musical stories, drawing on jazz, folkloric traditions and modern compositional techniques. The program includes selections from Back to the Sunset, the GRAMMY Award–winning album that reflects his mature compositional voice, alongside newer material and guest appearances to be announced closer to the performance.
Dafnis Prieto & Frost Latin Jazz Orchestra takes place Thursday, April 23 at UM Gusman Concert Hall. The concert is part of the Frost School of Music’s Signature Events lineup for the 2025–2026 season, highlighting collaboration between distinguished artists and student ensembles.
